Othello is a tragedy , that means it is a serious play representing thedisastrous downfall of a central charecter or the tragic hero, who in this case is Othello.

The play is about a black man in a white man's world. Othello starts the play as an epic hero of classical grandeur , a man of strange origion and experience. He falls in love with the white Desdemona and they get married. However, the crafty and malicious manipulation of Iago transforms him into the comic gull who is easily deceived by others . Yet, it is not only Iago's skill that creats such a metamorphosis(change), which turns Othello to the blindly jealous husband. Actually, his nature and his inability to control his rage and passion, which lead him to kill his wife and to commit suicide later.
